Gateway Village in Charlotte, N.C. is a vibrant urban village located in the heart of the city’s downtown area. This 15-acre development is a thriving community made up of street-level retail, office spaces and residential units. Its location near the Fourth Ward and Uptown makes it an ideal spot for various festivals, fundraisers and concerts. Our impact.

Challenge

Create a wayfinding and signage program to be used in the revitalization of this historic district.

Solution

We developed a brand pattern based on a circuit board, but incorporated elements of nature. We used this motif on all signage throughout the campus, using natural colors in a modern, saturated palette.

Gateway Village transformed an underutilized district into a thriving urban hub with 1.1 million square feet of office space, 500 residential units, and 125,000 square feet of retail. Connected by light rail and pedestrian pathways, it fosters a walkable, tech-centric community while preserving its historic charm.
